Sunday Service:
"Giving"
This Sunday concludes our series on Giving. We will see how important it is
to be a gracious receiver as well as a generous giver and why
forgiveness can be one of the greatest gifts we can give others as well
as ourselves.
Our affirmation is: "I
am open to receiving the abundance of the Universe. I am always richly
supplied with everything I need by God, my true Source. I gift forward
my love, my compassion and forgiveness, and my talents and treasure
every day. And so it is."
Each person will receive a special
gift from the church and will receive their last G.I.F.T. (Gift It
Forward Today) card. Because we won’t have cards doesn’t mean we can’t
keep right on gifting the world with random acts of kindness and watch
as lives are transformed through one kindness at a time.
This is
the time of year that our church has many opportunities to gift others;
our food drive for South County Outreach, our Christmas presents for
kids affected by AIDS and our adopted Christmas family.
This
Sunday is our monthly Board of Trustees meeting. If you have something
you would like to present to the board, please let me or a board member
know after the service. We value your input and ideas.
We will be sending everyone a summary of the Visioning items ranked by
priority. I can report on one item now. When asked which of our guest
musicians you would like to have back, allendale was the most requested.
I’m happy to tell you that beginning July, 2009, they will be with us
the first Sunday of every month through December. We would have them
start earlier but they are taking a six month sabbatical beginning
January, 2009.

Science of Mind Classes
Our next class, The Ideas and Concepts of the Great Philosophers, will begin
on September 4th. This is a second year accredited Science of Mind class and may
be taken for credit or may be taken as a stand alone class for personal
spiritual enrichment. It will be a six week class; the daytime class will be
from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the evening class from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The cost of the course is $90.00 + the cost of the book, Basic Teachings of the
Great Philosophers by S.E. Frost, Jr. Tuition may be paid in increments and
scholarships are available.
As we know, it was on the thinking of these ancients that Dr. Holmes based much
of the Science of Mind philosophy. During this class we will gain insights into
where the foundation for our spiritual beliefs came from. Students will gain an
understanding of the views of the Early Greek Philosophers as to the Nature of
the Universe. We will compare the views of the early Christian Thinkers with New
Thought philosophy as well as the ethical views of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle
in regard to good and evil and Spinoza’s theory that everything in the Universe
is actually substance or God.
The class will be held at our sister church, Golden Circle, in Santa Ana. Please
register for the class by return e-mail or at church this Sunday.
The Golden Circle Church is located at 600 Golden Circle Dr.
Directions from south Orange County:
Freeway: Take the 5 freeway to the Fourth Street exit, turn right, then turn
left on Golden Circle, follow the circle around and the church will be on your
right.
Surface streets: Take Trabuco towards Santa Ana, Trabuco becomes Irvine Center
Blvd, which becomes Fourth Street, turn right on Golden Circle and follow the
circle around, the church will be on your right.
We are an accredited Emerson Theological Institute satellite
campus and as such this is an accredited class that can be taken for credit or
simply for one’s personal spiritual enrichment. Cost: $90.00 + the cost of the
book. Class description follows.

Monday Live
Monday October 13th from 10:30
a.m. – 12:00 Noon. We are currently reading A New Earth; Awakening to Your
Life’s Purpose by Eckhart Tolle.
In his book The Power of Now, Tolle inspired millions of readers to discover the
freedom and joy of a life lived “in the now”. In A New Earth, Tolle expands on
these powerful ideas to show how transcending our ego-based state of
consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to
ending conflict and suffering through the world. He describes how our attachment
to the ego creates the dysfunction that leads to anger, jealousy, and
unhappiness, and shows readers how to awaken to a new state of consciousness and
follow the path to a truly fulfilling existence.
Those who have read the book before or took Oprah’s on-line class based on the
book, say they’re getting new insights this second time around. So, whether
you’ve read the book or not, please join us any Monday morning you can.
There is no need to purchase the book and you may come to as many or as few
sessions as you like. At the end of the session, Reverend Linda does individual
treatments for those wanting one, and then those who choose to, go to lunch at a
local restaurant. Everyone is welcome. For location and directions, call Darlene
Chadick at 949-348-762 |
